Thank You Event 2022: Kate Granger Patient Care - Winner
Every year we celebrate our amazing staff and their achievements at our pop-up Thank You ceremony. Board members will pop into video meetings to surprise colleagues and present them with a hamper for being shining examples of our magnificent staff behaviours.
Jo Littlewood, Staff Nurse, has won the Kate Granger Patient Care Award.
Kate Granger Patient Care - Winner
Jo Littlewood is a Staff Nurse at Wortley Beck Health Centre and has worked for the Trust for eight years. She is organised, compassionate, and very intuitive. She communicates well, is team orientated and supports and encourages other team members.
She is recognised for her inclusive approach, her warm and welcoming smile and bubbly personality which helps the diverse families she works with feel relaxed enough to understand care and treatment. Her compassion and perceptiveness means she is quick to understand when a family member needs support, even when they are not vocalising it.
Jo has developed pathways for children who have Down syndrome, especially during the pandemic, to ensure that they had their annual growth measurements and blood tests to optimise their healthcare.
Healthcare Support Worker Rebecca Ashton, and ICAN West Hub doctors and nurses nominated Jo for the award saying: “When you look at the qualities required of a good nurse, Jo meets them all. She has a wealth of experience working with families and always sees things from our patients and family’s perspective. She constantly receives compliments from parents who say they trust her to best accommodate their children’s complex needs and minimise distress. Jo provides individualised care and is a source of compassionate, reassuring support to often anxious families.
"Jo is a great team player and a fantastic support for us all. She arranges clinics and ensures equipment is ready so that team members feel welcome. She is always asking and is always curious - the best nurses are lifelong learners. Jo comes to work in a positive mood and always with a smile on her face. We are always in awe of how well she balances her home and work life, whilst always putting her patients, families, and her team first.”
Thea Stein, Chief Executive and Steph Lawrence, Executive Director of Nursing and Allied Health Professionals, surprised Jo and applauded her for fantastic patient care and support.
Thea said, "It’s such a pleasure to be here and lovely to read the nomination. Steph and I feel really honoured to be able to present you this award. To see a team love another member and support them is wonderful thing to be part of." Steph added, "Clearly your team think a lot of you Jo. Obviously you have demonstrated all of the qualities we value highly as the Kate Granger Patient Care winner for this year."
Jo responded to the surprise by saying, "I’m not often lost for words but I am now. I just want to say thank you to everybody. Sometimes I feel the honour is mine because I work with such a lovely team and coming to work doesn’t feel like coming to work, its enjoyable and a nice place to come. I absolutely love the job I do."
