Caroline works extremely hard to provide outstanding care as one of our community cardiac nurse specialists.
Caroline explains: “No day is the same – we care for a vulnerable group of people including those who have had cardiac illness, heart operations, heart attacks, heart failure or a stent inserted.
We run a clinic for patients and also visit them in their homes. There is a real focus on rehabilitation and on exercise classes.”
Caroline works hard to keep her patients out of hospital she supports families to come up with a clear plan to help them overcome their difficulties.
Caroline added: “I have a case load of about 55-60 patients at any one time. I run two clinics a week and will see about 7-8 patients at each clinic. When patients come to us because they have had a heart failure I get to know them really well - they will often access our service for 3-4 years.”
“I find it really rewarding when you have reduced people’s anxiety and you see them get their life back on track. Often when people first see me or one of the team they have only just got out of hospital, so our role is absolutely crucial.”
Outside of work Caroline likes to keep fit, she is a keen runner and is currently training for the Edinburgh Half Marathon. She enjoys playing tennis, arts and crafts and is a member of two book clubs!
