Patient Led Assessments of the Care Environment - Volunteers needed

We are currently recruiting volunteer patient assessors for the 2019/20 PLACE Programme.
What is PLACE?
PLACE is the programme in which we use patient assessors to help inspect our in-patient units.
The assessments are totally patient led and help us assess:
- The condition of the buildings and fixtures (inside and out)
- How well the building meets the needs of those who use it e.g. signage
- The quality and availability of food and drinks
- How well the environment protects people’s privacy and dignity
Who can become a PLACE Inspector?
People who use the community facilities can apply to become an assessor, for example:
- Relatives and carers
- Patient advocates
- Trust members
The important thing is that they provide a patient viewpoint.
How long do assessments take?
Assessments take 2 to 3 hours on average. Refreshments will be provided and travel/parking costs will be reimbursed.
What skills / training do I need?
PLACE volunteers should have common sense, an unbiased and practical approach and an objective viewpoint when gathering information. Training will be given as part of the programme and this will include:
- Patient confidentiality
- Hand hygiene and infection control procedures
- Content of the assessment process and scoring system
- Role of assessors and completion of assessment sheets
