Watch It Programmes – supporting a healthy lifestyle or the whole family

The Watch It service is a community based weight management programme for children aged 5 to 18 years.

Watch It offers 3 programmes that are designed to meet the needs of individual families. All sessions are held at family friendly times and accessible venues:

Watch It Classic

For high school age children and young people (11 to 18 years) and their families. Sessions focus on Eating Healthy, Getting Active and Staying Happy. The programme is 12 weeks with the opportunity to opt in for more support for up to one year.  All appointments last 30mins and are delivered 1:1 with a family and Watch It Health Coach.

Healthy Families

For primary school age children and their families. Sessions focus on various healthy lifestyle topics and parent skills to help support behavior change at home. All sessions are 30 minutes 1:1 with a health coach. For maximum benefit parents/ carers are invited to attend alone or can bring their child where no child care is available.

Choices

For children/ young people with a learning disability. Sessions focus on getting active, eating healthy and staying happy. A specially designed resource pack is available to ensure children gain good understanding. All sessions with the health coach are 1:1 with the child and their parent/ carer.

Physical activity

Watch It offer a fun physical activity session on Mondays at the Dame fanny Waterman Centre. This runs 4:30-5:30 and is open to children aged 7years and above. Getting active is really important and is encouraged throughout the programme. If this venue is not accessible for to you and your family Watch It Health Coaches will support you to find an alternative activity that you can access in your area.

Monday

East Leeds Health Centre, 78 Osmondthorpe Lane, LS9 9EF, 3.30- 6.30pm

Dame Fanny Watermen Centre, Brander Street, LS9 6QH, 3:30-6:30pm

Physical activity session 4:30-5:30pm

Tuesday

Armley Health Centre, 95 Town Street, Armley, LS12 3HD, 3.30-6.30pm 

Wednesday 

Kirkstall Health Centre, Morris Lane, Leeds, LS5 3JT, 3.30-6.30pm 

Hunslet Health Centre, 24 Church Street, LS10 2PT, 3:30-6.30pm

Thursday

Parkside Health Centre, 311 Dewsbury Rd, LS11 5LQ, 3.30pm - 6.30pm     

Meanwood Health Centre, 548 Meanwood Rd, LS6 4JN, 3.15-6pm.

(term time) 12:30-3:30 (school holidays)

 

A 60min physical activity session is available at each clinic. These run at various time slots and are accessible to all children on the programme aged 7yrs and above. All activity sessions include games that get children moving whilst having FUN!


Healthy Families Programme - for parents only

The Healthy Families' programme is a 10 week parent-only group. The programme is designed to support parents/ carers of primary school aged children (5 to 11 years) to achieve and maintain a healthy weight for their children. Sessions provide healthy lifestyle information along with skills to support behaviour change at home.

The Healthy Families Programme runs term time only at a variety of venues across the city according to need. Please contact the service directly for the current schedule.

Who should attend?

Families that:

  • Live in Leeds or have a Leeds GP
  • Have children aged 11 to 18 years
  • Be willing to attend a suitable programme and have a parent/ carer also willing to attend regularly,
  • Have a body mass index (BMI) on or above the 91st centile. If you are unsure about this you can use a BMI calculator or contact the office.
