SpineFit+: Understanding your pain

Pain is a natural and unpleasant experience that acts as a type of warning sign. In an acute situation it helps to get our attention and tell us something may be wrong. This is helpful when there may be tissue damage or a threat of harm and we need to seek help or safety to recover.

When pain persists for many months our pain system can become over sensitive to things like movement and touch. This makes pain that has been present for a long time a very different experience that needs different care and management from acute pain.

When your body’s pain system is too sensitive it can be hard to do jobs that you used to find easy. It stops you from doing activities or can lead to time off work. You become less fit and have less motivation to do things because it is painful to do them.
