Sickle Cell and Thalassemia Service


The Leeds Sickle Cell & Thalassaemia Service was established in 1990. It is a citywide service based at The Reginald Centre in Leeds.

We provide:

  • patient-centred care for children and adults affected by Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia
  • a genetic counselling service
  • screening (blood test)
  • home visits
  • attendance at hospital appointments with patients
  • health promotion training to health professionals, students, colleagues and schools
  • health education

We also develop community awareness through a variety of means and support two user groups (see contact details).


Referrals to the Leeds Sickle Cell & Thalassaemia Service can be made by individuals or by health professionals. If you are referring yourself please use phone numbers/addresses in the 'contact us' section.

Health professionals should write a referral letter and either post or fax it to the team.


It would be helpful if you could bring the following information to your appointment:

  • Identification
  • Your NHS number
  • Details of your GP
