We deliver the primary care service at Adel Beck Secure Children’s Home providing custodial places for boys and girls aged 10 – 17 (up to their 18th birthday) who require a secure setting due for either welfare or criminal justice needs.
We assess all young people using a universal health screening tool to make sure that all health needs are identified and met whilst in Adel Beck. We have a mixed team of nurses (including paediatric, mental health, learning disability and adult nurses) healthcare assistants and pharmacy technicians who work to provide healthcare.
Our primary healthcare service aims to be equivalent to that provided in the community and includes GP, dental and optician services. We also strive to make sure young people’s health care needs are met and continue to be met when the young people return to a community setting or transfer to another secure environment. We also respond to any emergency events and provide immediate clinical support.
Examples of the care we provide includes:
- Full physical health assessment
- Support for long term health conditions such as asthma and diabetes.
- Immunisation and vaccinations
- Sexual health screening
- GP, Dentist, Optician and Podiatry access.
- Assessment post incident
- Head injury observation
- Triage care
