Projects, training and resources


The oral health improvement team are involved with two major projects each year. The oral health improvement team are dedicated in raising awareness for Smile Month and Mouth Cancer Awareness Month.

National Smile Month

Every year, we raise awnational smile monthareness for the national smile month during May and June by providing useful information to the public and by working with organisations across Leeds. This year will be national smile month’s 40th anniversary. To celebrate this, we hope to work together with 40 companies and 40 teams within these companies across Leeds to promote national smile month. If your business is interested in taking part, please contact us.

Mouth Cancer Awareness Month

Another project we are keen on raising awareness for is the mouth cancer awareness month during November. We provide free mouth cancer screening sessions for members of the public across Leeds. If we find anything suspicious, we would refer patients for more extensive investigations.are you mouth aware

Resource Boxes

We have resource boxes are available to loan for schools, children’s centres and private day nurseries and children’s centres. They are also available for health care professionals to loan out and use for families or children they work with. We have different resource boxes to loan out dependant on the age group that the resources are intended for (from preschool to primary school ages).

The resource box includes a variety of resources for children to use, these may include:

  • Role playing costumes
  • Puzzles
  • Books
  • DVDs and CDs
  • Useful information for adults to give to children.
  • Activity ideas
  • Puppets

To ensure that up-to date oral health key messages are shared with the community, we provide a range of FREE oral health training sessions for professionals who work closely with people who have health inequalities.
