Thanks a Bunch David!
This week’s Thanks a Bunch went to Community Staff Nurse, David Welch. He was nominated by Operational Lead, Emma Burke, for the dedication to his work, and his support and kindness to patients and colleagues.
Emma explained that David had transferred to Beeston Neighbourhood Team temporarily due to a shortage of staff nurses. During this time, David worked additional hours and, on many occasions, stayed late to ensure essential visits were covered.
David is an experienced staff nurse with many skills that he is happy to share and guide his peers through. He supported the team by being extremely proactive in training the Neighbourhood Clinical Assistants (NCAs) in any outstanding competencies and providing additional support. Emma added that he is naturally caring towards his colleagues and his attitude to teamwork and his way of supporting the team has been great for the morale of their team.
David also provides excellent care to patients and shows tremendous selflessness. Recently, he even supported a patient by taking his cat to be spayed and paying for this himself.
Emma said, “I believe the support and nature of David's attitude and behaviour towards patients and colleagues deserves recognition as he goes above and beyond, daily.”
Brodie Clark CBE, Chair of Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust surprised David at Morley Health Centre and celebrated him, “Your reputation is growing as someone who cares, who leads, and the kind of person who looks for answers. You are a deeply caring person that’s for sure, and that’s the message I have received loud and clear. That’s why people want to value and respect you in this kind of way.”
David said after the presentation, “This has been a team effort, but I am deeply touched.”
David is acknowledged for demonstrating the Trust behaviours of: Caring for our patients, Making the best decisions, Leading by example, Caring for one another, Adapting to change and delivering improvements, Working together, and Finding solutions
