Community Children’s Eye Service

The Community Children’s Eye Service covers the diagnosis and treatment of visual defect, eye misalignment and eye disorders in children under 8 years and over 8 years in children with learning difficulties.

We aim to see new referrals within 6 weeks and appointments are offered on an ‘opt- in’ basis (choice of venue and time as availability permits).

Patients attend clinics in the community clinics which work closely with the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Ophthalmology Department.

The service is provided by NHS Leeds Community Healthcare with Orthoptists, Optometrists and doctors employed by LTHT, with nursing and administrative support by staff based at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Referral is by

School Nursing

Health Visitors

General Practitioners

 Community Paediatricians.
